Ladies-Only Hike to Ban Faqiran Stupa:Unforgettable Adventure

Introduction

Our all-ladies hike to Ban Faqiran Stupa was an adventure we had been planning for quite some time. The idea of organizing a women-only hike had been on our minds for a while, and the choice of destination came up during a lively discussion in our WhatsApp group. It turned out to be an excellent decision, and the experience was truly unforgettable.

The Journey Begins

We were a team of 16 enthusiastic ladies who gathered at Artilious Studio in DHA Phase 2 early in the morning. Traveling by coaster, we reached Sadhu Ka Bagh within an hour. Upon arrival, we did some light stretching at Sadhu Retreat, a quaint restaurant owned by Dr. Tariq Raheem. Dr. Tariq graciously joined us for the hike, accompanied by another guide who stayed at the rear to support slower participants, including myself.

Sadhu Ka Bagh:

It is located near D-12, Islamabad, is a garden believed to be over 2,000 years old. It is famous for its ancient caves and Banyan trees. While much of the garden is no longer intact, a 400-year-old mango tree still stands as a reminder of its history.

Sadhu Ka Bagh serves as the starting point for many trekking routes that allow visitors to connect with nature.

The Hike:

The trek to Ban Faqiran Stupa took about an hour and a half. While the trail was generally a gentle incline and accessible for first-timers, there were three to four challenging sections with steep 60-70 degree inclines stretching for a few hundred meters. Despite these tougher stretches, the hike was manageable with determination.

The trail was wide enough to accommodate 4×4 vehicles. As we began the ascent, the stupa appeared as a small speck in the distance, seemingly unreachable. Yet, step by step, we made our way to the top. The stunning views along the trail added to the experience, keeping our spirits high throughout the hike.

Ban Faqiran Stupa:

Ban Faqiran Stupa is an ancient Buddhist site believed to date back to the Gandhara civilization. Though modest in size, Its elevated location offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills, making it a rewarding destination for hikers and history enthusiasts alike.

At the Top:

Upon reaching the summit, we rested and enjoyed the crisp December weather. Our guide thoughtfully provided juice, snacks, and water, which were much appreciated.

Some of us ventured to explore a small pond located 300 meters from the stupa, despite the fatigue setting in. The sense of accomplishment and the serene surroundings made all the effort worthwhile.

The Descent:

Descending the trail was less tiresome but posed a challenge to our knees. Nonetheless, we arrived back at Sadhu Retreat by lunchtime. The restaurant had prepared a scrumptious and fresh meal for us. The food was mouthwatering, and the ambiance of Sadhu Retreat added to the experience. The clean and well-maintained bathrooms were a relief after the trek.

Reflections:

This hike was moderately challenging but achievable for most people with a bit of willpower. December proved to be the perfect time for such an adventure, with ideal weather for outdoor activities. The camaraderie within our group and the support from our guides made the journey even more enjoyable.

Dr. Tariq shared that he organizes various hikes, including a fascinating full-moon hike that I’m already eager to try. For anyone seeking a blend of adventure, stunning views, and a touch of history, the Ban Faqiran Stupa hike is a must-try.

Final Thoughts:

The hike left us with a sense of accomplishment, new friendships, and cherished memories. It reminded us of the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing the beauty of nature. If you’re considering a hike, gather your friends, pick a trail, and just go—you won’t regret it!
