Islamabad Farmers Market: Relaxed morning at Dino Park

Homemade food and artisan products at Islamabad Farmers Market

For years , I had wanted to visit Islamabad Farmers Market. The first time I went, it was August – and I discovered that the market takes a summer break during that month. Recently, I decided to try again, and this time I finally found it open.

Held at every Saturday morning at Dino Park, the market brings together homemade food, locally produced products and a diverse crowd in one of Islamabad’s greenest settings. It is small, relaxed and quite different from the city’s usual shopping places.

Where Is the Islamabad Farmers Market Held?

The Islamabad Farmers Market takes place at Dino Park, near Islamabad Zoo, every Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The venue had plenty of mature trees and greenery, which gives the market a pleasant, almost picnic like atmosphere. It is best to arrive early, explore the stalls and then sit down for breakfast or morning drink.

What Can You Buy at the Islamabad Farmers Market?

Although it is relatively small market, there is interesting selection of homemade and speciality products. The stalls included:

  • Fresh and artisanal breads
  • Homemade cheese
  • Ravioli and other pastas
  • Chutneys sauces and preserves
  • Vinegar
  • Homemade soaps
  • Homemade skin care products
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Sandwiches and baked goods
  • Hot and cold drinks
  • Traditional Desi breakfast

There are several other products as well, so it is worth walking around the entire market before deciding what to buy.

The homemade cheese was particularly interesting because it is not something commonly found at an ordinary weekend market in Islamabad.

A Market You Have to Experience without Photographing the Stalls

Visitors were not allowed to take photographs of individua stalls. While that was slightly disappointing – especially for someone who enjoys documenting the places – it also meant that we had to put the camera aside and experience the market more directly.

You can still enjoy the green surrounding, the live music, the lively crowd and the relaxed atmosphere, but it is important to respect the vendor’s request and avoid photographing their stalls or products without permission.

What We Ate and Bought

I bought ravioli and bread to take home. I also tried a sandwich and a lemon tea while still sitting at the market.

The sandwich was a little bland for my taste, and the lemon iced tea was just average. However , food preferences are personal, and there were many other things that I did not try. The desi breakfast looked like a better choice for anyone arriving early and wanting proper Saturday morning meal.

On another visit, I would probably explore more of the homemade cheeses, chutneys and baked goods before choosing what to eat.

Parking at the Saturday Farmers Market

The car park was packed when we arrived, which showed how popular the market has become. Even so, we eventually managed to find a parking space.

If you want easier parking and quieter experience, arriving close to opening time would be sensible. By late morning, both the market and parking area can become busy.

A Diverse and Relaxed Islamabad Crowd

One of the most noticeable things about the farmers market was its diverse crowd. There were many Foreigners, local families and group of friends browsing the stalls or enjoying food beneath the tress.

The market felt welcoming and informal. No one seemed to be in a hurry. People came not only to shop but also to meet others, eat breakfast and spend time outdoors.

This laid-back atmosphere is what makes it more than just a place to buy bread, cheese and chutney.

Bring a Picnic Mat and Stay for a While

The best way to enjoy the Islamabad Farmers Market is not to rush through it.

Bring a picnic at, choose something to eat and find a place under the tress. The surrounding greenery makes Dino Park a comfortable to spend leisurely morning, particularly when weather is pleasant.

You can brows the stalls, try a new food product and then simply sit and enjoy the surroundings. It is easy outing for couples, families and groups of friends looking for something different to do in Islamabad.

Is Islamabad Farmers Market Worth Visiting?

The Islamabad Farmers Market is worth visiting especially if you enjoy homemade food, natural products, small local businesses and quiet outdoor spaces.

It is not large or highly organised festival, and not everything may suit your taste. It’s charm lies elsewhere: in the trees, the interesting little stalls, diverse visitors and the freedom to spend an unhurried Saturday morning outdoors.

It offers another kind of fun – simple , relaxed and refreshingly different from Islamabad’s Malls and crowded commercial areas.

Go early, arrive hungry and take a picnic mat. You may not return with bags full of shopping but you will probably enjoy seeing a gentler and more leisurely side of Islamabad.
